Best FlixBus Promo Code · FlixBus Discounts & HistoryGreen and Smart Mobility to Experience the World - FlixMobility is a young mobility provider that has been changing the way millions of people travel in Europe since 2013 via its FlixBus brand. As a unique combination of tech-startup, e-commerce platform and transportation company, FlixBus quickly became Europe's largest intercity bus network, helping millions of people reach their destinations. In 2018, FlixTrain was launched, expanding this service into the rail industry. Thanks to a user-friendly booking system and extensive daily route network, FlixMobility offers travelers the opportunity to experience the world, no matter their budget. Our green buses and long-distance trains comply with the highest safety and environmental standards, allowing us to offer a sustainable, convenient and comfortable alternative to private transportation.
The FlixTravel Experience: Our Road to Success - Our success can be attributed to the digitization of traditional bus travel. With technological advancements like our e-ticketing system, the FlixBus-App, free Wi-Fi on board, GPS Live Tracking and an automated Delay-Management System, FlixBus continues to revolutionize the bus travel industry. Through smart network planning and dynamic price management, we are able to provide our customers with the best offers possible. Our FlixBus network relies on close partnerships with small and medium-sized enterprises and often family-owned businesses - our regional bus partners - who are responsible for the green FlixBus fleet. For the operation of our long-distance FlixTrains, we cooperate with the most-successful private train operators in Europe. Through these partnerships, the innovation and start-up spirit of the FlixMobility brands meet with the long-standing experience of traditional industry. FlixMobility was founded as the start-up FlixBus by three young entrepreneurs in Munich who had the vision of making sustainable bus travel both comfortable and affordable. FlixBus was officially launched in 2013 after the deregulation of the bus market in Germany and quickly became the leading long-distance travel provider within the country.

Buying Tickets
Getting tickets is really simple either using the FlixBus website or the app. If you're undecided on where to go, the route finder is an easy way to see where you can get to from your current city. Each leg of a journey is clearly outlined with timings and prices. You'll also be able to pay for additional luggage (standard allowance is one hand luggage (max 7kg) and one travel baggage (max 20kg)) as well as any exceptional items including bikes.
Routes
As already mentioned, they have routes everywhere. Just one look at the overview of Europe on their route finder and you'll see just how extensive the network is. If you can't get a direct bus to your destination, chances are you'll be able to find a connecting route of some sorts. Long distance routes will include stops every few hours to stretch your legs.
Pros
- Over 2,000 destinations in 28 countries
- Almost always a way to get between major towns and cities whether direct or indirect
- 90% of FlixBus journeys arrive on time - if it is significantly delayed, FlixBus customer service will compensate you for reasonable food and drink purchases
FlixBus App
Tickets are all handled electronically using QR codes if you use the app. If you don't, you're meant to print your tickets out but this is a pain if you're travelling long term. The app also gives live updates on the status of your bus.
Pros
- No need to print off tickets or worry about losing them
- Once saved to the app, tickets can be accessed offline
- Live bus status available including current location and delays in the schedule
- Bus stop locations link to Google Maps directions using coordinates
Getting on a FlixBus
Each ticket gives the exact location for the bus stop or station so it's easy to find where you need to be. The vibrant green colour of the buses makes them very easy to spot as well. Some might say they did that on purpose. You'll need to arrive at least 15 minutes before the departure time. Before boarding, you'll need to present your ticket and a passport if travelling internationally.
Pros
- Easy to find and each bus clearly states the number and destination on the front
- Always plenty of storage under the bus for luggage
Where To Sit
If you've decided to pay extra to book a seat then you have less to worry about. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to pay extra for it and we've never had issues getting seats together. For passengers who haven't booked a seat, available seats are indicated by a green sticker on the overhead luggage rack.
Unfortunately, many people don't seem to read this piece of information on their tickets and just sit anywhere to then be moved along by someone who's booked that seat. Always check for the green sticker before sitting down. Where you sit on the bus also has an impact on your comfort.
Pros
- No need to book seats if you arrive and board early
- All seats are fitted with seatbelts
- You can also book a spare seat to guarantee an empty space next to you
Seat Tips
- Seats in front of the toilet are best if you don't like anyone sitting behind you, however, they don't always recline and have limited or no under-seat storage
- Seats located behind the toilet and steps often have reduced legroom
- Back row seats can be more cramped with less legroom and limited or no under-seat storage
- Double-decker FlixBuses have some seats with tables
- If you suffer from travel sickness, seats nearer the front are better
Comfort
Whether you're travelling short or long distances, you want to be comfortable. With FlixBus, they're just regular buses and not really designed with overnight journeys in mind. The journey is often too rough and there will likely be several stops throughout the night.
Pros
- Fairly comfortable seats with a reasonable amount of legroom as standard
- Decent under-seat and overhead storage for coats and smaller bags
Onboard Facilities
FlixBus say that all of their buses have: free WiFi; plug sockets; toilets; snacks and drinks to buy. In my experience, that isn't always the case or made clear. Some buses are also equipped with 'Flixtainment', their onboard entertainment portal. Here are the details about WiFi, plug sockets, snacks and drinks. Toilets and Flixtainment deserve their own focus areas!
To be fair, every bus we have taken has had WiFi, however, FlixBus WiFi has a 150mb usage limit per passenger. With regards to plug sockets, it really can vary. You will sometimes get actual mains plug sockets, other times there will be USB sockets and sometimes you get nothing. We've had journeys where one half of the bus has had USB sockets on the seats but the other half hasn't.
As for snacks and drinks, that's news to me and I've never seen it advertised on any of the buses we've taken. On further inspection, only in the FAQs section of their website does it state that snacks and drinks are only on some buses. Although on the main site it says 'all'.
Pros
- Free WiFi for every passenger
- Usually ample charging sockets or ports at each seat
